I was reading your blog, said a friend of mine and the post that made the most sense was ‘Said and Done’, hmm, someone’s reading it then.

My Friend is a fantastic woman from a Muslim background who has made choices which have gone against her communities traditions, and she’s carried that sense of empowerment into her work and business life. ”I choose autonomy over power” she said and I thought “what a great frame of reference”.

She could have achieved more, she’s forfeited some of the family and cultural inheritance which was her due as a woman in her community and she’s come out stronger, yet still full of doubt. I empathise with that, my roots are different from hers yet we share similar outcomes.

“I’ve spent a lot of time talking about what I don’t want” she said “And now’s the time to talk about what I do want”, does she know I wondered??

I only ask that, because it’s the same question that I’ve been asking of myself, what do I want? what can I offer, how can I be of service to others in the world?

“I think finding inner peace is about reconciling your choices with the outcomes in your life” I said, or something similar to that.

Not everyone has choices, our history, our parents journey here to the ‘motherland’ England from the Caribbean, the Asian sub-continent (I hate that phrase) and Africa has been about bringing hope and change and possibility to new generations.

And as much as we have received it gratefully and have been enabled to make different life choices, so too we hanker after what has been lost. Some of us are constantly looking over the fence to see what’s been left behind, (I count myself as one) whilst also wanting to create a different future) possible both ways??

This will be a recurring theme in future posts, hope, possibility and longing, are they reconcilable differences or just what is?

Until next time!

There I was at my first Systemic Constellations workshop
and it felt like coming home!!!

I was at the same time, both excited and somewhat reticent, it’s often that way when something fits and you feel like you know what’s going to happen next.

I could bore you with lots of theory about what constellations are, but ultimately it doesn’t matter very much. It’s just one more part of the jigsaw that I’m putting together, trying to integrate all the different parts of my life and find ‘even more peace’.

“It’s like I’m going back in my life and also coming full circle” I remarked to another delegate.

“I don’t get what you mean” she said.

“Well it’s like I’m going back and filling in all the gaps that I never completed first time around”,

back to mental health work

back to rethinking a systemic worldview

back to do a bit more of emotional and psychic healing, so that I can go forward into the next stage of my life.

I know that I’m not alone, there are many of us on a similar journey and sometimes its nice to sit with others, strangers and yet feel so connected.

So I’ve booked myself onto another constellations workshop next saturday because I still have lots of work to do, check it out.

Until next time!

Somebody asked me some time ago, whats a blog for and why would anyone want one and I’ve sat and mulled that over for some time, especially as I’m not exactly blogging a lot at the moment.

If you’d asked me that 18 months ago I would have said, well its about building a following of people, your own tribe so to speak, (very online marketing lingo),

But since I’ve moved away from all that i guess its back to what blogging was about when it first started fifteen years ago or so.

A platform to express your thoughts and connect with like minded people.

It’s not even just that for me, its a way to be creative and expressive in a world which seems to be shrinking around creative expression.

I don’t mean TV, media, film, there’s so much of that, but just individual creative expression.

So much of professional work life now is about evidenced based professional practice, which i grant you in required in some domains.

But the ability to bring something creative seems to be more difficult.

Could be about sectors, the corporate world can afford to take chances but in the public and community sector which is where I like to be,

I see closing down and getting more routine, same old, same old,

Maybe I’m just getting older and more out of touch.

Maybe this is what happens in every generation.

Maybe it doesn’t really matter, what a blogs for or even what someone has to say,

As long as they say it if only to themselves.

Until next time!
